To the person behind the camera,

December 13, 2017

Let me just begin by saying that I am writing this ultimately for your good. I don’t want you to see this as a crazy guy waving a picket-sign about how pornographers go to hell. And also, when I address this to the person behind the camera, I am not simply referring to the cameraman; I am referring to everyone involved in the production process, those described by the following words: “Woe to him who gives his neighbors drink, pouring out your wrath and even making them drunk, in order to look at their nakedness!”

Those words are from the prophet Habakkuk. He goes on to say, “You will be filled with disgrace instead of glory. You also—drink, and expose your uncircumcision! The cup in the LORD’s right hand will come around to you, and utter disgrace will cover your glory” (Habakkuk 2:15-16). If you help to promote this industry through production of its content, God wants you to know that death is coming. You might be rich and popular right now due to your business, but in the end you will be utterly disgraced to the point that no one will remember your riches or popularity. God turns sin back on those who are guilty of sin: if you force people to get drunk and naked for your pleasure and the pleasure of many others, God here says that you will drink of His wrath and be shamed as well.

However, with that said, I must not forget what I wrote in the first paragraph. This does not have to be your end. You don’t have to be shamed, disgraced, and destroyed. I don’t want you to be shamed, disgraced, and destroyed. But I love you enough to tell you that that is the alternative if you ignore the rest of this letter.

I want to see you turn from your life of sin and slavery (your slavery to sin and your enslaving of others). I don’t want you to end up in Hell for eternity. And the fact of the matter is that God doesn’t either. He sent Christ to earth 2,000 years ago—why we celebrate Christmas—and after thirty years He died on a cross for all the sins you commit on a daily basis, and He rose from the grave three days later. However, you must believe in Him if you want to escape shame, disgrace, and destruction. And if you truly believe in Him you will walk away from your current life. You cannot worship God and sex.

But here’s the truth of the matter: “The Lord does not delay His promise, as some understand delay, but is patient with you, not wanting any to perish but all to come to repentance.  But the Day of the Lord will come like a thief; on that ⌊day⌋ the heavens will pass away with a loud noise, the elements will burn and be dissolved, and the earth and the works on it will be disclosed” (2 Peter 3:9-10). God wants you to turn to Him. He has not yet returned because He is waiting for you. Don’t wait until it is too late; thieves come when we aren’t ready for them; this is how Jesus will come back; if you don’t come to Him before it’s too late it will simply show that you were never one of His.

If you think, “I can’t ever be loved by God,” that’s just not true. Many people with highly sinful pasts have found grace in Jesus Christ. The Apostle Paul—a murderer of Christians—wrote, “Don’t you know that the unrighteous will not inherit God’s kingdom? Do not be deceived: No sexually immoral people, idolaters, adulterers, or anyone practicing homosexuality,  no thieves, greedy people, drunkards, verbally abusive people, or swindlers will inherit God’s kingdom.  And some of you used to be like this. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God” (1 Corinthians 6:9-11). God is in the restoration business.

Please come to Him today and leave your life of sin! If not, I guarantee that you will be shamed, disgraced, and destroyed in the end. I don’t want this for you. Please trust Jesus!

Sincerely,

JW
